Our Volunteers

Our team of Volunteers includes all ages, backgrounds and beliefs. We all love this building.

This enjoyable occasion is an annual event when we launch our new volunteering year with old and new friends, lots of cake and tremendous enthusiasm for everything Living Stones strives to do. Please come along if you are curious about joining the team, or if you are already a keen supporter of Living Stones!

Volunteer roles

Training and Induction for new volunteers explains what you will be asked to do (welcome visitors, helping with special events), working as a volunteer (practical do's and don'ts, and keeping yourself and visitors safe), and getting to know the church's history, purpose and architecture.


Weekend Welcoming  

Living Stones volunteers work as a team. They welcome visitors to the church between April and September. They try to answer visitors' questions about church history and architecture. 


Events

In 2026 we are planning 3 special events. Volunteers are needed to help with:          

  • Setting up and clearing the venue 
  • Looking after IT equipment
  • Selling tickets
  • Ushering (front of house)

Refreshments     

  • Preparation
  • Serving
  • Clearing away

School visits (occasional)   

Welcoming teachers and students


Admin and organisation is undertaken by members of our small steering group. WE WELCOME NEW MEMERS! We need help with

  • Planning events
  • Publicity and reporting
  • Very simple book-keeping

Looking after our visitors

We take the safety and wellbeing of our visitors seriously. All our volunteers are required to undertake the Church of England Safeguarding Basic Awareness training. This takes 75 minutes. To access the online module click here

  1. Create an account giving the information below:

  • Training Institution Not part of a Training Institution
  • My Church's Town/City and Name (eg Leeds St Peters)    Iffley.  St Mary the Virgin
  • Church Role.  Volunteer, visitor outreach

THIS COURSE IS FREE

Please complete Basic Awareness course, and forward Penny your certificate.

Tips for Welcoming Visitors to the Church at Weekends

OFFER your availability on Sunday afternoons 2.30 to 4.30 from 5 April - 13 September.

You will always be partnering with another volunteer. 

Please wear your Living Stones Volunteer lanyard.

Your partner will show you the information and resources for volunteers. Please read the Risk Assessment.

Try to keep count of your visitors, and note their questions and observations in the back of the visitor book..
